This Isn't Really a Blog

Well, it is; but perhaps not the kind you’re expecting.
There’s no rule here that every post has to be 1,000 words long, carefully divided into five sections and finished with 10 Useful Phrases to Take Aaway.
Here are 10 Reasons Why I Don’t Want it to be That Kind of Blog.
- Argh. Stop it!
- NOW!!
- ...
Too many blogs are written to a formula designed to generate clicks and keep you scrolling — and AI is making it worse, adding its emojis to every other sentence.
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with the occasional nice list, or a sprinkling of emojis, but that’s not really in line with how Langbrella thinks or functions.
Here you might find a detailed article about fluency or pronunciation one week, and a single paragraph about something I heard on the bus the next. There might be a story from one of my classrooms, an English mistake made by a native speaker who ought to know better, a poem, a joke, a rant, a question, a word, or simply a thought that seemed worth sharing... a seed I want to plant and leave with you to see what happens.
Sometimes I’ll write about something that happened yesterday. Sometimes something that happened twenty years ago.
And sometimes it won’t be me writing at all. I want other teachers, learners, linguists, friends and interesting people to appear here too — particularly when they have something worth saying.
But there is one thing I want all these posts to have in common.
They should lead somewhere.
Perhaps you’ll learn something. Perhaps you’ll disagree with me. Perhaps you’ll notice something about English that you’d never noticed before. Perhaps you’ll bring the idea to a Langbrella Live session, try something differently, tell me I’m wrong, or disappear down a linguistic rabbit hole of your own.
That’s much more interesting to me than publishing articles simply because websites are supposed to have blogs.
So don’t expect a formula. Come back tomorrow and you might find 1,500 words. Or seven.
But hopefully you’ll have at least ONE GREAT REASON TO RETURN!
