10-Minute Challenge

A Promotion Without Support

Give Me Some Advice!

Someone has a problem — and they need your advice! From everyday dilemmas to difficult decisions and awkward situations, today's challenge puts you in the role of a trusted adviser. What would you suggest? How would you explain your advice? And would you take it yourself?
You need:
Your empathy & problem-solving skills

Quick Start

1
Read the problem & consider the situation
2
Think of two possible solutions
3
Give your advice & explain why

Let's Begin!

You got promoted, but no one will train you.

A friend has accepted a management position but received almost no induction, unclear goals and no training. They worry that asking for help will look weak.

Your challenge: A friend comes to you for advice. Don’t jump straight to telling them what to do.

  1. Understand. Separate genuine capability from missing organisational support.
  2. Advise. Give two practical options, including something your friend could try first.
  3. Support. Say what you would ask before recommending a final decision.

Extra challenge: Your friend rejects your first suggestion. Respond constructively without repeating yourself or insisting you must be right.
