A hotel has received a glowing five-star review. But is the guest really recommending it?
Choose the most effective option for each gap. More than one may be grammatically possible; consider how the reviewer is using sarcasm.
“What an unforgettable experience!
The hotel was conveniently (1) ______ just forty minutes from the nearest road.
Our room had a breathtaking (2) ______ of the car park wall.
The staff were wonderfully (3) ______. Nobody disturbed us, even when we rang reception fourteen times.
Breakfast was a real (4) ______. I’ve never seen so many creative uses for yesterday’s toast.
The swimming pool was absolutely (5) ______. We had it all to ourselves, possibly because it contained no water.
All in all, I would (6) ______ recommend this hotel to anyone I particularly disliked.”
Extra challenge: Rewrite two sentences as genuinely positive hotel comments. What has to change about the situation as well as the vocabulary?
