You need:
Your vocabulary and a little creativity

Quick Start

1
Read the original sentence
2
Say it three different ways
3
Compare the meaning, tone and style

Let's Begin!

“Actually, that’s completely wrong.”

Correct the fact, not the person

During a planning meeting, someone says: “The presentation is on Thursday at 2 pm.” You have just checked the confirmed invitation: it says Friday at 2 pm.

You could respond, “Actually, that’s completely wrong.” But the purpose of The Gentle Correction is to put the record straight without making the other person lose face.

  1. Correct the information. Give a short, clear correction that identifies Friday at 2 pm.
  2. Offer a helpful next step. Refer to the confirmed invitation without sounding triumphant or dismissive.
  3. Adapt your tone. Write a version for a friendly teammate and another for a formal meeting. Say both aloud.

Extra challenge: Suppose you are only 80% sure and have not checked the invitation. How should your wording change?
