Get ready: Look at today's story prompt. It might be an opening sentence, an unusual situation, a picture or a collection of words.

Take a moment to imagine what happens. You don't need to plan every sentence, but it helps to have a beginning, a middle and an ending in mind.

Tell your story: Start a 60-second timer and speak aloud. Introduce the situation, develop the action and try to reach a satisfying conclusion before time runs out.

Don't rush or worry about perfect grammar. If you get stuck, improvise! Unexpected twists often make the best stories.

Have another go: Try telling the same story differently. Change the ending, introduce another character or experiment with a different mood.

Extra challenge: Record yourself, listen back and try again. Can you make the story clearer, more expressive or more entertaining without making it longer?
